NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — A Kenya Red Cross official says at least 22 people have been killed in an attack on an upscale mall in Nairobi. And the official says that number is likely to rise. Witnesses say men armed with grenades and AK-47s opened fire after telling Muslims to leave. KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — NATO says three international troops in eastern Afghanistan have been fatally shot by someone wearing an Afghan National Security Forces uniform. In a statement NATO said officials from the international force are working with Afghan officials in the investigation. The NATO statement did not reveal the nationality of the slain service members. JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's intelligence agency says a Palestinian lured an Israeli soldier to a village in the West Bank and killed him. The Shin Bet agency says the soldier's body was found today in a well. The killing could deal a new blow to U.S.-led Mideast peace efforts, which resumed in July after a nearly five-year break. VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has demoted a conservative Italian cardinal who led the Vatican's department on clergy. The cardinal appointed by Pope Benedict is known for being highly traditional on matters of liturgy and priestly celibacy. But the pope is keeping on another of his predecessor's appointments as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In that role the German archbishop has led a crackdown on liberal U.S. nuns and helped craft the church's response to sex abuse by clergy. NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Rodriguez has hit his 24th career grand slam, breaking a tie with Yankees Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig for the most in major league history. The Yankees slugger is playing while he appeals a 211-game suspension stemming from Major League Baseball's investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs. New York won last night's game, beating the San Francisco Giants 5-1.
