A young boy was hit by a car in Centerville following a shoplifting by his mother. Police were dispatched to the Belk at Galleria Mall around 6 p.m. Thursday in reference to a reported shoplifting. Authorities say 25-year-old Arkebia Albury is charged with child cruelty, reckless conduct, driving with suspended license, serious injury with by a motor vehicle, failure to stop at an accident with injury, and theft by shoplifting in the Thursday evening incident. Houston County District Attorney George Hartwig says, in cases like these the charges can sometimes be confusing. "We will look at the big picture, we will look at the indicted to determine what the appropriate charges are or what the appropriate charges should be, what the person has been charged with up to that point," he added. Police Chief Sidney Andrews tells WGXA the child was hit by the driver of the getaway car, which was the child's mom. "Jumped in the car in an attempt to flee and in the process the driver of the car ran over her four year old child," he said. Following the incident, Andrews says Albury put, 4-year-old Jayden Albury, in the back seat, ignoring the officer's plea to leave the child where he was and wait for an ambulance. Centerville police say the Jayden Albury is hospitalized at the Medical Center of Central Georgia with critical injuries to his head and internal organs. The child's life will determine the criminally for Arkebia Albury, charges of vehicular manslaughter or even murder are possible if Jayden dies from his injuries. This incident remains under investigation by Centerville Police and the Georgia State Patrol. A young boy was hit by a car in Centerville following a shoplifting by his mother.
