70,000 Chickens Killed in Monticello Fire

A fire in a barn at the Cal-Main Foods farm outside Monticello on Thursday killed more than 70,000 chickens.

Glenn Allen, spokesman for the Georgia Insurance Commissioner and Fire Marshall's office tells WGXA the fire caused an estimated $4 million in damages to the barn at 3006 Bullard Road.

The source of the fire was undetermined although not considered suspicious, Allen said.
