SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — With the midterm elections still a year away, U.S. Rep. John Barrow has $1 million already stashed away to defend his east Georgia seat.
The latest campaign fundraising reports show that Barrow, the last Democratic congressman from the Deep South, with more than $10 in the bank for every $1 his nearest would-be Republican rival has to spend.
Construction company owner Rick W. Allen and former Capitol Hill aide John Stone are seeking the GOP nomination. Allen reported raising $124,782 in the quarter that ended Sept. 30, with $92,130 cash left in the bank.
Stone raised $46,169 in the last quarter and reported $43,352 cash on hand. Like Barrow, both Republicans live in Augusta.
Barrow raised $274,350 in campaign contributions during the three-month period. He faces re-election Nov. 4, 2014.
