We've heard a lot about consolidation lately between Macon and Bibb County but school consolidations may soon be on the horizon for the Bibb County Board of Education.
Tuesday's called school board meeting was packed with concerned parents as the board weighs merging four elementary schools into two.
The board did not vote on the actual closure of the schools but the vote they took will begin the process.
The schools in question are Agnes Barden and Minnie Burghard and Walter P. Jones and King/Danforth Elementary Schools.
The board's vote begins the process meaning that there will be two public hearings held to gather input from the public on the possible mergers before the final vote is taken in June.
While parents are concerned, they say they are glad they will have their voices heard.
"With them wanting to hear with the public I think we have a fighting chance if everybody gets out from Agnes Barden and speaks and talks and tells people how much Agnes Barden means to them." -Lonnie Estes\CONCERNED AGNES BARDEN PARENT
The date and location for the public hearings has not yet been set.
The board also approved an employment contract with former Central High School Principal Steven Smith as Interim Superintendent for the Bibb County district. That vote was unanimous.
