DETROIT (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series after John Lackey pitched into the seventh and Mike Napoli homered in a 1-0 win over the Tigers in Detroit. Lackey held the Tigers to four hits while striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings, but he needed Napoli's seventh-inning blast in order to pick up the win. Napoli's home run came off Justin Verlander, who allowed just three other hits while fanning 10 in eight innings. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer and pinch-hitter Shane Robinson added a solo shot as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Dodgers 4-2 in Los Angeles to take a three-games-to-one lead in the National League Championship Series. Holliday had been 0-for-12 in the series and hitless in his previous 22 at-bats at Dodger Stadium before his homer put the Cardinals ahead 3-0 in the third inning. Winning pitcher Lance Lynn allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings to help the Cardinals get within one victory of their fourth World Series appearance in 10 seasons. CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians center fielder Michael Bourn has had surgery on his left hamstring after getting hurt in Cleveland's final regular-season game. The Indians say Bourn will need six weeks to recover at his home in Houston before he can begin his normal offseason program. The 30-year-old leadoff hitter batted .263 with six homers and 50 RBIs in his first season with the Indians, who signed him to a four-year, $48 million contract in February. DENVER (AP) — Manager Walt Weiss has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Colorado Rockies. In his first season on the job the Rockies went 74-88, a 10-game improvement over the previous season. The 49-year-old came out of the high school coaching ranks last year on a one-year deal with the Rockies after Jim Tracy stepped down following a 64-98 season in 2012. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver-kick returner Josh Cribbs to help on special teams and add depth to their banged-up receiving corps. Cribbs was cut by Oakland in the preseason after having offseason surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He is tied with New England's Leon Washington for the most kickoff-return touchdowns in NFL history with eight.
