NEW YORK (AP) — A fire that started on the second floor of a six-story Bronx building a few blocks from Yankee Stadium has left three children dead. New York police say a 25-year-old woman, 4-year-old girl and 4-month-old girl were treated for smoke inhalation and are in stable condition.
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Officials are anticipating a nightlong standoff with a man holed up in a California house after allegedly shooting four law enforcement personnel, including a federal immigration officer. Helicopters have been circling the Sacramento suburb while armored vehicles and other police cars surround the hose in the Roseville area. Residents were being bused to a community center. Police say they've spoken to the suspect by phone.
RIDGECREST, Calif. (AP) — Police say a man with a long criminal record killed a woman, wounded another and led officers on a wild chase through the Mojave Desert with two hostages in his trunk. Sergio Munoz was then 'killed in a shootout with police when he stopped his car and began firing into the trunk. Police say the hostages have been hospitalized.
TOKYO (AP) — Officials say no damage has been reported from a magnitude 7.3 earthquake offshore of Japan's crippled nuclear power plant early Saturday. The quake triggered small tsunamis but causing no damage. An Japanese earthquake official says the quake was an aftershock of the deadly magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that struck the same area in 2011.
