A family member may be responsible for a triple homicide outside of Augusta. The case involves a student at Fort Valley State University and brother of Appling Middle School's Principal. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged Ryan Jones with three counts of murder and possession of a firearm Thursday. Jones is the son of Edna and Roosevelt Jones and brother of Fort Valley State University student Russell Jones. Their bodies were found charred in a wooded area a few miles away from their home Tuesday. An autopsy showed each person was shot at least once before being burned. Jones was originally being held as a person of interest. Steven Jones, brother of Ryan, and Principal at Appling Middle School in Macon, requested that the Richmond County Sheriff's Office conduct a welfare check on his family after not hearing from the victims since May 20. Once on the scene, deputies forced their way into the home and discovered large amounts of blood. Investigators on the scene immediately felt a murder had been committed. The case remains under investigation.
