Central High School football players will be washing cars this weekend in memory of a former Central player  who lost a battle with brain cancer.

Brandon Benning would have been 27 this month but passed away in November of 2013.

Proceeds from the car wash will go to the American Brain Tumor Association.

Besides raising funds for research, organizers of the event say they hope it also will raise awareness of the disease.

The car wash is set for Saturday, Aug. 16, from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the SunTrust Bank on Zebulon Road. Cars will be washed for a $5 donation to the charity.
