TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is urging college students to make sure the so-called millennial generation lives up to what she calls the "participation generation."

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, are joining with their daughter, Chelsea, at an annual meeting of college students who are trying to tackle global challenges.

The weekend Clinton Global Initiative University is drawing more than 1,000 students from about 300 colleges and universities to the Arizona State University campus.

The Clintons were joined Friday night by the state's senior Republican senator, John McCain, and will join former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords on Sunday at a community service project.

McCain was the GOP's 2008 presidential nominee. Hillary Clinton is considering a presidential campaign for 2016.
