Burglars stole dozens of handguns early Thursday morning after breaking into a gun shop in western Bibb County.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a burglary about 12:15 a.m. Thursday at Classic Firearms, 5854 Columbus Road.

The store's alarm system notified the sheriff's office and the owner of the store. As deputies were responding, the owner called to tell them his shop had been burglarized.

The owner reported 64 handguns and rifles had been stolen from the display counters.

The sheriff's office reports that surveillance video shows a man removing a metal mesh screen that covered the front door and smashing in the door with a cement block. Three other men took part.

The four men loaded the guns into tote bags before leaving through the smashed door. They wore clothing that covered their skin and masks.

A witness told investigators the men could have gotten into a 1990’s model Ford Crown Victoria. The vehicle was white in color and it had a blue or dark colored stripe that ran down the side of the vehicle. The vehicle was last seen headed east on Columbus Road.

Forensics Investigators and Criminal Investigators are continuing to process evidence from this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-746-9441 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
