A baby is dead and its mother in critical condition after a car accident on I-75 in south Macon Saturday

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells WGXA Laquesha Johnson, 20, was driving southbound with her two month old baby Karleigh Fountain around 5 pm. Following her car closely in another vehicle was the father of her child. Jones says Johnson lost control of the car, flipped and went down into a ravine near the Rocky Rreek Road exit. The baby was ejected from the vehicle.

Both Johnson and Fountain were taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where Fountain was pronounced dead. MPD along with the EMA closed the interstate from the Eisenhower Parkway exit to Rocky Creek Road for hours snarling traffic for many motorists during the holiday weekend.

The case is under investigation.
