A Bibb fire station now bears the name of a former Bibb County commissioner.

Fire Station Number 109 on New Forsyth Road, was dedicated Monday to honor Elmo A. Richardson, Junior.

About two dozen people were on hand for the ceremony held inside the fire station built with money generated from the 2011 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST.

The station began operating back in July.

Richardson says he appreciates the honor of having the station dedicated to him. He says he's also proud that it's a state-of-the-art facility.

Richardston stepped down from the board in 2012 after serving as Bibb Commissioner for ten years.
