CUMMING, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Forsyth County deputy shot in the leg at the county courthouse is expected to recover.
Forsyth County Sheriff Suane Piper tells WSB-TV that the suspect is dead (http://bit.ly/1pZCbUO). The shooting was reported Friday morning at the courthouse, located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Police on scene were routing traffic away from the courthouse and evacuating some nearby businesses. Video from the scene shows a silver SUV stopped near the steps of the courthouse, past a flag pole and potted plants.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan says authorities in Forsyth County asked for GBI bomb disposal units to make sure there were no explosives in the vehicle involved.
Piper says the deputy, who's been with the department 25 years, was transported to a local hospital.
