A special dedication ceremony was held Friday night before at the home opener at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon.
The school renamed their football field in honor of their biggest fan, alum Austin Childers. A 2009 graduate, Childers suffers from Mitochondrial disease.
Childers appeared briefly on stretcher on the field before a packed stadium and among school, local and state officials, including Gov. Nathan Deal and University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt.
Childers says he was a little overwhelmed by the support from the community.
"I didn't know what to expect," he said Childers. "My parents kept it a little hidden before the game. But now it's still overwhelming the love people have shown."
