COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — A new president has been chosen to take the helm of the Georgia chapter of the NAACP. Officials said Tuesday that members voted at the annual Georgia state convention in Columbus to elect 34-year-old civil rights attorney and pastor Francys Johnson of Statesboro as its president. NAACP representatives say Johnson is the youngest state conference president in the organization's history. Johnson said in a statement that he's humbled and excited about the challenge. Johnson replaces the outgoing 55-year-old Edward Dubose, who served as president of the Georgia chapter for 15 years. Among other opportunities, Johnson says he's looking to work with Gov. Nathan Deal on issues in state government, and leaders in the education arena and criminal justice field.
