DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in DeKalb County say a police-involved shooting that left a 16-year-old boy hospitalized was unintentional.
DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander says the teen was skipping school and fled from police who were searching an area of Decatur after a burglary.
Police have said two suspects were found hiding in a woman's attic Tuesday and police said they thought additional suspects fled the scene on foot. Alexander says the teen saw police scouring the area for additional suspects and ran from them.
Police say an officer found the boy in a shed and he was shot in his right arm. Officials say the teen is in stable condition.
Officials say the officer who shot the teen has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
