ATLANTA (AP) — A Fulton County grand jury has taken the unusual step of asking that a special panel be appointed to investigate inadequate staffing at the county jail. Grand jury foreman Gillen Young told reporters the grand jurors were concerned that inadequate staffing raises safety concerns for jail staff and inmates.

FLAT ROCK, Ala. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in northeast Alabama say a Georgia man accused of leaving his 5-year-old son alone in a car during a hunting trip is free on $500 bond. Jackson County Sheriff's Lt. Rocky Harnen told that 29-year-old Brandon Mark Chambers, of Trenton, Ga., was charged with endangering a child.

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Executives of a south Georgia hospital system are notifying thousands of patients that their personal information may have been compromised. Officials at Phoebe Putney Hospital say a password protected, unencrypted desktop computer containing the information of more than 6,700 patients disappeared in early November.

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (AP) — The search is continuing for two Dawson County men who were gearing up for a fishing trip and were reported missing. Officials say Mason Cox and David Wood, both 20, have been missing for a week and were supposed to go fishing near Fredericks Cove near Lake Lanier on Jan. 2.
