ATLANTA (AP) — A bill to let a type of medical marijuana be used in Georgia under certain circumstances has passed a key committee vote. The legislation sponsored by Republican Rep. Allen Peake of Macon would revive a long-dormant research program allowing academic institutions to distribute cannabis oil to those suffering from specific medical conditions.

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has requested more than $40 million in federal disaster relief to help the state recover from a winter storm earlier this month. Deal says the damage estimate covered 48 counties, including several in the metro Atlanta area.

CUMMING, Ga. (AP) — Forsyth County authorities have charged a man with child cruelty and reckless conduct in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son. Sheriff's spokesman Doug Rainwater says an autopsy on the boy who was found dead yesterday will determine whether additional charges will be filed against 25-year-old Christopher Truett.
