ATLANTA (AP) — Gov. Nathan Deal says his personal finances have improved as he seeks re-election four years after questions were raised about his sizeable debts. Reports show Deal was helped by the sale of a Gainesville auto salvage company that he co-owned.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Atlanta pitcher Aaron Harang and the Milwaukee Brewers' Matt Garza had no-hit bids today until Chris Johnson homered with two outs in the seventh inning and sent the Braves to a 1-0 victory. Harang didn't allow a hit until Logan Schafer grounded a single leading off the bottom of the seventh.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Georgia's 14 congressmen are asking the chairman of a House budget subcommittee to help them jumpstart the deepening of Savannah's busy shipping channel. All nine Republicans and five Democrats from the state's House delegation wrote to Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson. He chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development.

SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Atlanta says he suspects the church will ultimately sell a $2.2 million mansion built for his use. Atlanta Archbishop Wilton Gregory said in an interview with The Associated Press today that he accepts blame for not consulting enough with members of the church before building the expansive residence.
