CUMMING, Ga. (AP) — A Forsyth County deputy shot in the leg at the county courthouse is expected to recover. Forsyth County Sheriff Suane Piper says the suspect is dead. The shooting was reported this morning at the courthouse about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.

ATLANTA (AP) — The National Weather Service says more storms that could be strong or severe are possible in much of Georgia later today. They say west Georgia is the most vulnerable to the storms. A thunderstorm packing high winds and heavy rain passed through the area last night.

ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has become a father. Reed's new wife, Sarah-Elizabeth Reed, gave birth to a baby girl yesterday. Maria Kristan Reed is the couple's first child.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The woman who owned the University of Georgia lineage of "Uga" bulldog mascots has died. UGA President Jere Morehead says Cecelia Seiler died on Thursday in Savannah. She was 80.
