ATLANTA (AP) — The office of Gov. Nathan Deal says individual and corporate income tax collections are up, along with gross sales tax collections. The announcement marks a solid start to the fiscal year, which began July 1, and show Georgia revenues totaled nearly $1.49 billion in July — for a 5.5 percent increase over the same month a year ago.

ATLANTA (AP) — Commissioners in Georgia's most populous county have approved a 17 percent property tax hike, the first of its kind in more than two decades. Commissioners in Atlanta's Fulton County commissioners approved the increase with a 4-3 vote Wednesday, saying the tax hike will help pay for libraries, courts and social services.

EATONTON, Ga. (AP) — Florida detectives have been invited to look at the evidence in the unsolved killing of a couple from the Lake Oconee area that included a beheading. A motive remains a mystery after friends found the headless body of 88-year-old Russell Dermond in May. His wife's body was found weeks later in a Georgia lake.

DALLAS, Ga. (AP) — The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is announcing plans to add dozens of high-resolution cameras along the Silver Comet Trail in the wake of an attack that left a jogger severely injured. The expansion would be a dramatic security upgrade and comes after a 42-year-old woman walking the trial was found severely beaten on July 29.
