DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — DeKalb County's police chief says he will travel to Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend in his role as president of a black law enforcement association. DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander is president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. Ferguson has reported several nights of civil unrest after the weekend shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.

ATLANTA (AP) — Police say a motorist is accused of drunken driving in a wreck that killed that a homeless man known as "Freeway Johnny," who greeted drivers for years near Atlanta's Downtown Connector. Police say 25-year-old Joshua Reese left the ramp and slammed into Johnson's tent as he slept under a bridge early Saturday.

ATLANTA (AP) — Police are investigating after a woman reported that a man chased after her and tried to grab her as she jogged on the Freedom Park Trail in Atlanta. Emory University medical student Pearl Ryder says the encounter happened around 10:30 Monday morning on the trail near North and Euclid avenues.

ATLANTA (AP) — State labor officials say Georgia's unemployment rate has risen to 7.8 percent. The Georgia Department of Labor announced the new jobless figure today. It's up from 7.4 percent in June.
