A hospice nurse living in Macon is being held in Baldwin County Jail, charged with 54 felony counts of fraudulently obtaining controlled substances.
Miledgeville Police Major Reggie Hill said Diane Godfrey, 58, formerly of 108 Vestal Circle, Milledgeville, was arrested after a months-long investigation by Detective Kim Khan.
Khan had investigated a series of theft reports from hospice care agencies, all of who had employed Godfrey. During the investigation, the Medical Arts Pharamacy had contacted police after Godfrey attempted to pick up numerous prescriptions for painkillers, specifically for Lortab, a brand of hydrocodone.
While other hospice nurses frequently call in prescriptions for their patients, Godfrey was also attempting to pick up the pills. The hospice care facilities confirmed that the prescriptions were forged and never prescribed.
Police couldn't find Godfrey at her Baldwin County address, but U.S. Marshalls were able to locate her at a Macon address, where she was arrested.
