As first reported on WGXA, Walmart is coming to Cochran.
City officials said that on Monday, the city received site development plans from Kimley-Horn Engineers and architectural/structural plans from HFA Architects, Engineers, and Interiors, both representing Walmart.
The site development plans propose a 69,179 square foot supercenter on approximately 8.20 acres of land located at the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 23/87 and Georgia Highway 26 intersection, adjacent to the Shell gas station as outlined on the map.
The subject property is part of a larger 180-acre parcel that is zoned C-2 (Roadside Business District) which permits a retail use, such as the proposed Walmart supercenter for retail, grocery, and pharmacy.
Given that no zoning conditions were attached to the subject property when it was annexed and rezoned back around 2005, the proposed development will be required to meet the current development requirements as outlined in the city code.
The city’s approval of the site development and architectural/structural plans does not guarantee that Walmart will construct the store.
The city will advise the community once building permit applications are received from Walmart.
