"And it appears like we are to that point for me to order a new election." -Judge Boswell
Senior Superior Court Judge Stephen E. Boswell calls for another election in the hard-fought and ongoing District 2 race between Henry Ficklin and delcared winner Larry Schlesinger.
Schlesinger won the runoff between the two candidates by 26 votes but Ficklin challenged those results citing a situation in the Overlook apartments which is divided between districts 2 and 3. Ficklin says 48 voters who should have been listed in district 2 were forced to vote in district 3.
Because that number of votes could have impacted the race's outcome, Judge Boswell will order another election, a result that pleased both candidates.
"I'm happy with the judge's decision because no one has won this election because all the voters didn't get a chance to vote." -Henry Ficklin
"Well we were actually for a new election because we knew that the past two have had its flaws. We believe that there are other abnorations out there and that this time around, the third time around, we have to get it right." -Larry Schlesinger
But exactly when that election will take place has yet to be determined.
"We're going to get together with both sides and the attorneys and decide how long its going to take us to get things together." -Jeanetta Watson
With the new consolidated government slated to launch in January, there is a real possibility that the government may begin without a representative from district 2, a fate both sides in the race wish to avoid.
