MONROE, La. (AP) — The chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party says a GOP congressman videotaped kissing a married woman who is not his wife is an embarrassment to the party, Louisiana and Congress.

Roger Villere issued a blistering statement Thursday, calling on Rep. Vance McAllister to resign.

Villere says "Mr. McAllister's extreme hypocrisy is an example of why ordinary people are fed up with politics."

He goes on to say that "a breach of trust of this magnitude can only be rectified by an immediate resignation."

McAllister's office said Thursday that "as of now, there are no plans of resignation."

Pressure has mounted on McAllister since the Monday disclosure of video footage from his district headquarters. The congressman is a conservative who highlights his Christian faith and family devotion. He has found few defenders among the Republican establishment.
