Registration deadline to vote in primary near
ATLANTA (AP) — Georgians have just a few days left to register if they want to vote in next month's primary election.
The deadline to register is Monday if people want to vote in the May 20 primary. Secretary of State Brian Kemp reminds Georgians they can use new electronic methods to register.
Those with a valid state driver's license may access online registration through the "My Voter Page" on the Secretary of State's website. Android and Apple mobile users can now access the "GA Voter" application.
WATER MAIN BREAK
Crews plan repairs for water main break in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) — Crews are planning repairs to a broken water main break that prompted the closure of a major street on Atlanta's east side for two straight days.
WSB Radio reports that workers on Saturday morning were waiting for rains to subside before they attempt to fix the water main, which shut down DeKalb Avenue.
The break near DeKalb Avenue and Elmira Place was first reported shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday.
Water flowed across DeKalb Avenue Thursday, and again on Friday. That led officials to close DeKalb Avenue from Moreland Avenue to the Candler Park MARTA station at the start of the Friday rush hour.

Police probe drowning death in Lake Lanier

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Gainesville police and state natural resources officers are investigating the drowning death of a Gainesville man in Lake Lanier.
Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said emergency crews were called to the docks at the Chattahoochee Country Club shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday.
Gainesville police the first on the scene, and officers immediately began giving life-saving procedures to the man. Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after that.
The man, 51-year-old William James Carswell of Gainesville, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Holbrook said investigators are looking at all aspects of the case to determine the timeline, cause and manner of death. He said police are investigating it as a drowning.
Police probe Saturday slaying of Kennesaw man
KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — Police in Atlanta's northwestern suburbs are investigating the killing of a security guard found with a gunshot wound near a Kennesaw shopping center.
Cobb County police say officers were sent to an area along George Busby Parkway in Kennesaw in response to a 911 call around 12:20 a.m. Saturday.
They found the guard, 23-year-old Zakeem Berry of Kennesaw, in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.
Police say they later found a suspect in the case at a Kroger store in Acworth, where he had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone, where he died.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Berry was a security guard at the shopping center, Town Center at Cobb.
HOUSE CLERK'S CAR STOLEN
Police recover stolen House clerk's car in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) — Police say they've recovered a car belonging to the clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives after it was stolen outside the Georgia Capitol.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Bill Reilly's 1993 Chevy Suburban was found Wednesday evening on Windsor Street in Atlanta. The driver's side window was broken and the ignition had been hot-wired.
Thieves had stolen the car -- along with some expensive ski equipment inside -- from Reilly's parking spot at the curb of the Capitol on Monday afternoon.
Investigators have video showing two men breaking into the car and driving away.
The theft of Reilly's vehicle comes just more than two years after the State Patrol beefed up security and a created a new post on Capitol Hill following a 2012 carjacking.
