The upcmoing school year is upon us.
World Changers Church teams up with L.H. Williams Elementary to help all the children in need.
The church adopts its' first school and will help students get prepared for the school year.
On Sunday volunteers distributed 350 backpacks to the students.
Principal Shandrina Stewart says it's a great way to help the students be successful.
"More hands on deck equals to it takes a village to raise a child and the community support is vital to the success of our boys and girls," Stewart said.
Five elementary schools were on the list for consideration but it was the interest and dedication of Williams that caught the fellowship's attention.
Minister Horace Holmes of World Changers Church said Williams Elementary was the the only school that said yes.
"I think because the heart of the principal, she has a heart of servanthood and we look for people that we can serve and it's an honor to be serving this particular school,"
The church gave away backpacks last year to King Danforth Elementary.
Church members say a drastic improvement in students grades happened which prompted a search for adopting a school to help more students.
The church will provide a concert for the students on their first day on Friday, August 1st.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the youth center on campus.
