As the New Year began it marked the end of Macon and Bibb County as separate governments and the consolidation not only of the government itself but also of the Macon Police and Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The first full shift of the Macon-Bibb Sheriff's Office began at 6am, but the new year in law enforcement had already been kicked off with a literal and unfortunate bang.

"It seems like some young men that knew each other and had a dispute over something, we're not sure yet." -- Colonel Henderson Carswell, Bibb County Sheriff's Office

Just before 6 am. Bibb County Deputies arrested 35 year old Savallas Emory. Emory who lives at the Pavillion Apartments on Zebulon Road allegedly shot 24 year old Bryan Collins in the chest after an argument. Collins is in stable condition, Emory is charged with aggravated assault and violating parole.

But despite that incident, the first day of the new Bibb Sheriff's Office is going quite well.

"Things have gone exceptionally well. Calls have been dispatched smoothly. Officers are getting to the locations in a timely manner and things are just working exceptionally well." -- Colonel Henderson Carswell, Bibb County Sheriff's Office
