Main Street Macon is focusing on downtown development and are honing in on a few areas including off street parking and safety for the remainder of the year.

Currently, many people park on the streets but there are decks, Alex Morrison with Main Street Macon said, people should consider when coming into the district.

Morrison said the organization wants to have a parking management plan. The idea is to make the decks, which majority are privately owned, more viable and encourage the owners to make improvements like lighting.

"We want to work with the private owners to make sure they are advertising the parking,” he said. “Make sure they (visitors) know that most of them are free after regular business hours."

Another area of focus is promoting safety with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

"We just want it to be a very collegial atmosphere that people know they can go to the Sheriff's Office for anything," Morrison said.

Main Street also plans to implement a downtown signage program, assist the Downtown Macon Rotary Club with the Macon Beer Festival, promote and manage low interest loan programs for existing businesses, assist the progress of the Urban Core Master Plan and continue to hold grand openings for new downtown businesses and assist in business recruitment development.
