A Warner Robins man has been arrested by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office for stealing more than 15 pounds of jewelry from North Bibb County homes while his girlfriend was cleaning the houses.

Blaine Ashley Hellwig, 31, was arrested Saturday.

Chief Deputy Billy Rape from the Houston County Sheriff's Office confirms Hellwig is a former Houston County deputy who worked as a detention officer from May 22, 2006, until he was fired on April 16, 2007.

Sheriff's investigators said Hellwig went with his girlfriend, Corrie Bradbury, as she performed work for a house cleaning service called Interior Cleaning.

Investigators said as Bradbury worked cleaning the houses, Hellwig went through the homes and stole jewelry and other items.

Investigators said Hellwig acted alone and his girlfriend wasn't involved in these thefts.

Investigators recovered more than  15 pounds of jewelry, old coins, and flatware.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are expected, investigators said.

Hellwig was charged with 16 counts of fiduciary theft. He was released on $8,450 bond.

The Bibb Sheriff's Department asks that clients of Interior Cleaning who have discovered items missing from their homes should contact Investigator Jack Cleveland at 478-621-5650.
