With a new month officially underway, March kicks off 31 days of colorectal cancer awareness.

Monday, Mayor Robert Reichert took to the stand to help spread the word.

Colorectal cancer is the 3rd most diagnosed cancer in the U.S., but as many as 80 percent of these cases can be avoided.

Nancy White, Director of Oncology Services at MCCG, says the best explanation for people not getting colonoscopies could be the feeling of embarrassment.

She quotes Katie Couric when she says 'don't die of embarrassment.'
