McKibben Lane students got their hands dirty.

The school nutritionist, the Master Gardners of Central Georgia and the Department of Agriculture teamed up Thursday morning to help students see the connection between what's on their lunch trays and dinner plates to crops in the fields.

"So what these students are doing here today, is they are planting vegetables, they are planting different kinds of lettuce, and they are planting an herb garden with oregano and rosemary and chives and some other herbs in it, and they are trying to understand where the food comes from." -- Steve Hortin, Special Nutrition Programs Deputy Director

The students enjoyed learning about planting veggies, herbs and lettuce that will eventually make their way to the cafeteria.
