There were highs and there were lows. But when it was all said and done, sheer pandamonium took over the Mercer campus as they shocked Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Hundreds of fans showed up for an on campus watch party to see if their beloved Bears could pull off the upset against one of the nation's most storied programs. Down only one point going into the second half, fans felt good about their team's chances.
"The momentum is on our side, I feel really really good about the second half," said David Davis, who's an English professor at the University.
Duke was favored to win by 13 points. It was the 19th straight season the Blue Devils were going to the dance. That didn't stop some fans from feeling they could pull off the upset, including Jason Crawford, who I talked to at the begining of the week.
"I feel that Mercer can win it, I mean I don't see why we can't," said Crawford. Winning, is just what happened. His exhilaration was at an all time high after the victory. "We upset another giant! We took down Duke! We broke the president's bracket and broke many expectations!" said Crawford.
Excitement filled the campus, even from the kids who haven't taken taken their SATs to get into college. The energy was infectious, from the students who took their SATs a long time ago preparing to graduate.
