Middle Georgia State College is getting into the green spirit.

It hosted the Tenth Annual Waddell Barnes Botanical Gardens Spring Symposium.

Besides presentations on various flowers and pruning, the national garden clubs gave an award of excellence to Dr. Waddell Barnes.

Barnes is the founder and namesake of the Botanical Gardens on the MGSC Macon campus.

The award is given to non-members of the National Garden Clubs for their significant efforts in advancing the organization's goals and this award adds to his other recognitions.

"Our founder last year received an Arbor Day Foundation Award it was a national award." -- David Sims, MGSC Facilities

Barnes is a retired physician and former chairman of the Macon State College Foundation.
