Steve Chambers has spent much of his life in local government. The Miledgeville Councilman serves as head of a charter committee, charged with specifying the details for a merger between Milledgeville and Baldwin County.

"I've been part of looking at this off and on for the last 25 years," says Chambers. The idea picked up steam with the emergence of chamber's committee. Baldwin County is one of the smallest counties in the state. Local legislators agree it makes unification more practical. Chambers says what's less practical is the idea consolidation will immediately save the newly formed municipality money.

"While the savings may come at some point in time, its not going to be initially. it may be five it may be ten it may be twenty years down the line," Chambers says.
