UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The Mohegan Sun casino and its parent company have announced their purchase of a professional lacrosse team that will begin playing in eastern Connecticut in December.

Mohegan Sun and Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which also operates a casino in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, announced Wednesday that they bought half the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League. The team will move to Uncasville, Connecticut, and play its first game in December at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

It's the second professional sports team acquired by the Mohegans, who have owned the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA since 2003.

Kevin Brown, chairman of the Mohegan's Tribal Council, emphasized lacrosse's roots in Indian culture going back more than 700 years.

The franchise name will be announced at a later date.
