The kickoff for Bragg Jam 2014 is Saturday and is expected to be a night of fun, fitness and music.
The annual Moonlight Miles 5K is once again signaling the start of the festival. This year, Atlanta based rock band Wesley Cook will blast their sounds around Tattnall Square Park. Also Macon's own drum line band, Street Line will perform.
Festivities and registration for the event begins at 7 p.m. Spectators and runners are encouraged to dress in crazy outfits.
"Ones that glow in the dark, ones that sparkle," Moonlight Miles committee chair, Chris Tsavatewa said.
Instead of the course ending at Central City Park this year, it will complete right where it started at Tattnall Square Park.
"We're doing an A to A event this year," Tsavatewa said. "So you can park your car there, stay hang around. Have an adult beverage afterwards and really get the full experience as you gear up for Bragg Jam."
The race is open for all fitness levels Participants will run through historic neighborhoods and downtown Macon. The four top finishers by category get trophies. The overall winner also receives a one year membership at the Hartley Bridge Road or Houston Rd. Kinetix.
While it's about fun, Tsavatewa said the run helps promote the festival to a larger audience.
"People who love music and love running and getting them excited and running through our historic community,"
Moonlight miles 5K race will begin at 9 p.m. The entry fee is $20 dollars until Friday, Race night it's $25 for 18 years and older. For children 17 and under it’s only $15.
