ATLANTA (AP) - A spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal says Georgia is unlikely to use state funding to reopen national parks during the partial federal government shutdown.

The Obama administration said Thursday that it would allow states to use their own money to reopen national parks that have been closed.

Deal's spokesman, Brian Robinson, says while the governor's office doesn't want to see national parks closed in the state, Georgia is not able to cover the costs of keeping the state's national parks open.

Robinson says Georgia and many other states will see additional programs closed because of a lack of federal funding if the shutdown stretches into November.

Governors in Utah, Colorado, South Dakota and Arizona have asked to use state money to reopen their national parks.
