PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The NFL has agreed to spend close to $800 million to diagnose and compensate potentially hundreds of retired players who may be suffering from dementia and other brain disorders they blame on concussions from their time in the league. The settlement, which still has to be approved by a federal judge, comes just days before the first game of the 2013 season.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) —Tiger Woods showed no signs of the back pain that brought him to his knees Sunday at The Barclays when he played the Pro-Am today at the Deutsche (DOY'-chuh) Bank Championship. The world's top-ranked golfer took full, powerful swings with the driver at the TPC Boston, and he had no trouble gouging shots from the deep rough. The second of the FedEx Cup playoff tournaments start tomorrow.
