SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Taylor Braun scored 21 points, with 19 coming from the free throw line as North Dakota State defeated Santa Clara 91-85 Friday night.
The Bison (3-3) faced a late one-point deficit in the first half, but closed with a 14-2 run sparked by two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws by Mike Felt to take a 50-39 advantage at the break.
Santa Clara (2-3) clawed back to tie the game at 74 with 4:42 remaining as Jerry Brown sank two free throws, but North Dakota State increased their lead back to eight.
Brandon Clark scored six straight points to pull the Broncos within two with 35 ticks left, but Braun sank six more free throws to ice the game.
Braun was just 1 of 9 on field goal attempts, but was a perfect 19-for-19 on free throws.
Clark finished with 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting and netted five 3-pointers.
