The hopes of quadrupling the size the Ocmulgee National Monument, members of the public learned more Thursday night about the proposed boundary exansion of the park.
If the acquisition goes through it would mean the addition of over 2,000 acres of land to the park, the park's current size is 702 acres.
Attendees voiced their input on whether they thought the expansion was a good idea.
"We are hoping that with this expansion and with the additional recreational opportunity, we'll even increase our visitation more which of course then would also increase our economic impact." -- Jim David, Park Superintendent
Property would be only acquired from willing donors or sellers and is subject to the availability of funding. The expansion requires approval by congress to go forward.
