The race for Peach County's next superintendent is now over.
Five board members votes Dr. Daryl Fineran in to be the next leader for the school district. Fineran, a former Peach County educator and superintendent for Wayne County, says he is happy with the result.
"Generally they don't all agree at the beginning and hopefully in the end they will and come to a consensus and they did today with 5-0 and i'm happy about that," Fineran said.
The other candidate, James Lebrun took a superintendent offer elsewhere, leaving Fineran as the sole finalist.
With time constraints of a new school year approaching, the board had to act fast.
Fineran now standing alone and with two board members up for re-election in November, the board made their decision so they could focus on election efforts. With a busy school year ahead, Fineran says he plans to start work immediately.
"I hope to be at work on Monday and get in here and start meeting people, directors and principals and looking at finances, said Fineran.
Fineran will take former Superintendent Joe Ann Denning's seat as she is set to retire this month. The official first day with the district will be July 1st.
