Perry High School won first place at the State AAAA One Act Play competition last weekend with its performance of The Taste of Sunrise.

Perry High student Russell Bugg also won Best Actor.

The Taste of Sunrise, a play by Suzan Seder, concerns a young man's journey through childhood after a fever makes him deaf and his father dies.

“This heartfelt and honest production brought all new challenges to our students,” said  Joe Sendek, Perry High drama teacher.  "Many students learned lines in both spoken words and American Sign Language, blending the two together in a beautiful version.  The play opened our eyes to a world without sound and the students have been diligent to honor the deaf culture.”

The public has the chance to see their state championship encore performance Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Perry High School auditorium.  All tickets are $5 and sold at the door.
