PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) — Phenix City plans to develop a park honoring the military at the site of an old hospital.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer ( ) reports that the project announced Thursday will be a joint effort between the city and the American Legion.

The American Legion will swap its current building and two acres for land at the old Cobb Hospital site, where it will build its new hall.

The remaining 10 acres will be developed into a park to honor the five branches of the U.S. military: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

A statement from the city says officials hope to generate $3 million in revenue from the sale of the American Legion building and two office buildings adjacent to the new park.
