By a vote of 3 to 2, the decision was made to rezone a portion of zebulon road...a disappointment to many residents in attendance.John abernathy represents the development company that proposed a new shopping center in the community.Abernathy says his company will spend 30 million dollars to build it and 350 to 500 people will work there when it's done.
Few details have been released on the specifics of the shopping center other than it will include a fitness center and several restaurants. Most of the complaints from residents centered on how the 25 acre property is surrounded on 3 sides by a residential neighborhood.
Dozens of residents came out in opposition with signs expressing their displeasure. 550 signed a petition. The negative impact of increased traffic, an influx in crime and diminished property values were the main reasons these neighbors dont want this retail development to be built. but their arguments, graphs, charts and traffic studies were not enough to stop the decision from being made.
