SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The first woman appointed to serve as Savannah-Chatham County police chief says she doesn't want the job permanently. Juliet Tolbert, a 32-year veteran of the department, was named interim police chief last month when Chief Willie Lovett abruptly retired after a subordinate officer filed a sexual harassment complaint against him. The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/GLbS3n ) Tolbert was asked during a meeting of Chatham County commissioners Friday if she wants to lead the police department permanently. She responded, "That is not my desire." Tolbert said serving as chief for a temporary basis "for now is more than enough." Savannah City Manager Stephanie Cutter has said hiring a new police chief could take a full year. The city is expected to start taking applications in February or March. ___ Information from: Savannah Morning News, http://www.savannahnow.com
