The next mayor of Warner Robins will be retired firefighter Randy Toms, and current Mayor Chuck Shaheen will stay in city government, but now as a city council member after winning his bid in Tuesday's run - off election.
Poll workers described Tuesday as a trickle of voters for 12 hours as people in Warner Robins made their way to the ballot box. Election officials say only 14.5% of registered voters turned out.
Many people came to their own conclusions about the lackadaisical number.
"Laziness, you know, it's hard to get them out from the beginning so the second time it like pulling teeth," said voter Tammy Brinkley.
"I think it's the weather that's causing them not to turn out today," said voter Cynthia Statham." I'm somewhat disappointed but I'm here."
Even with the low turnout neither race was close. In the mayor's race, Toms defeated retired public works director Joe Musselwhite 3,154 votes to 1,662 votes.
In the post 1 at large council race current Mayor Chuck Shaheen defeated Incumbent Mike Daley 2,803 votes to 1,956 votes.
Election officials say final results will be certified Wednesday, and many voters say they will keep on trying to get more people to the ballot box next election.
"You can't make a difference if you don't come out and vote," said Statham.
