JERUSALEM (AP) — Both Israel and Hamas say indirect talks that will be held in Cairo in the next three days will be challenging because both sides have demands. The talks are to happen during a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza. The lull in fighting was brokered by Egypt. The monthlong war has left nearly 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, dead. On Israel's side, 64 soldiers, two Israeli civilians and a Thai laborer have been killed.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. will spend an additional $225 million to replenish Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system. It's been used against some of the rockets fired into Israel by Palestinian militants in recent weeks. The additional funding was signed into law by President Barack Obama on Monday. The U.S. has provided hundreds of millions of dollars for Iron Dome in the past.

KUNMING, China (AP) — Efforts are being made in southern China to evacuate villages near rising lakes formed by landslides. The barrier lakes pose a new threat to about 800 residents and seven power stations downstream in Yunnan province. It's the same region hit by a strong earthquake on Sunday that killed nearly 400 people and left thousands homeless.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — An American woman infected with Ebola is due to arrive Tuesday at the same Atlanta hospital where an American doctor is being treated. Missionary Nancy Writebol is being ferried on the same specialized plane that also brought the doctor from Liberia to Emory University Hospital over the weekend. Both are receiving an experimental treatment.

PHOENIX (AP) — A medical researcher and gun rights enthusiast says he's proven his point and will no longer take an AR-15 assault-style rifle to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Peter Steinmetz has been accused by a woman and her teenage daughter of pointing the loaded gun in their direction, which he denies. Packing heat is legal in some parts of the airport, but Steinmetz could face disorderly conduct charges. The case is being reviewed.
